Basic foundation introduction: (10 – 15 weeks)
- Intro to Break-dance (B-Boy); Dance Video on roots of break dancing, dress, politics and early to current hip hop culture (where this style of dance has become)
- Intro to basic “Top Rock” Technique’s
- Intro to Footwork (6 step) Foundation and grassroots Footwork Techniques
- More extended Footwork and Top Rock Training
- Intro to “Freeze” Techniques
- Assemble different moves into a composition; learn how to create rhythm or “feel ”for music
- Intro to “Shuffles” and Spin-based moves; early incorporation of style and “flavor” in movements
- Learn the meaning of competitiveness through dance and early battle techniques.
- Learn “Up-rock” (Brooklyn Rock); concentrate on basic battle style’s
- Assemble all basic movements into complete compositions.
Intermediate dance training: (10 – 15 weeks)
- Advanced Top-rock training, and Up-rock styles (shuffles, jerks & soulful steps)
- Extended footwork training (4 and 6 step drills), advanced shuffle and spin moves are introduced
- Basics of Power move and spin foundations are introduced
- Music and dance infusion is more closely introduced to the dancer
- Advanced freeze moves also provided. Orientation of steps (side to side/switching sides)
- Level 2 of more complex footwork & top rock movement compositions are worked on.
- Advanced battle techniques “the true meaning of competition and the B-boy battle history
- Students learn early stages to the science of holding ones own weight, & shifting weight around
- The B-boy as a “performer” is introduced. Students learn basic choreography counts, simple routine’s and timing to create their own (upcoming talent showcases)
- Advanced training about the history of the B-boy and Hip Hop culture in further depth.
- The elements of true “flavor” and style are introduced and how to go about your own.
- Students begin their journey into creating their own personal flavor and style to compliment their dance training.
- Basic routine and performance training set up (creating group dances in synch)
Advanced B-boy/Girl training workshop: (Weeks 10 – 15)
- Advanced Foot work (4 & 6 step, shuffles, direction changes etc) & extended alike training is concentrated on, speed, agility and stamina drills will become strenuous portions of the workshop
- Advanced weight management (holding your body in freezes and power moves) shifting weight (Excellent body training)
- Power moves, air moves & spins are concentrated on. Speed and more demanding physical training.
- Battle drills between opposing teams are exercised in depth
- Advanced freezes, air born moves and acrobatic styles are concentrated on.
- Learning the true meaning of becoming one with the traditional B-boy break beats concentrated & how to utilize different music for different approaches
- Extended strength train techniques,
- Directions of advanced movements concentrated on (switching sides)
- How to construct more complex show routines and advanced choreography is concentrated on. Timing and music to body coordination training drills.
NOTE: Keep in mind each curriculum is based on a 10-15 week program and in some cases some aspects may not be covered within time depending on students learning & facility. Students in intermediate and advanced trainings do not constitute “actual advanced Bboys in those natures” but exemplfy advancements made for this particular structured workshop.
